Crossbows originated in the Far East. They appear in the historical records of Korea, China, and Japan. These weapons were made for hunting small game such as birds and rabbits. This weapon was usually mounted on a bamboo or wooden stock with a spur to secure it firmly in place, and it was drawn with either a cord or by using an elastic band attached to the bowstring.

The earliest weapons appeared during around the 2nd century BC, when they were used by Chinese military forces against enemy archers at sea. These primitive early models had a very short range because of their size and light draw weight. One of them is displayed at the National Museum in Beijing.

If you're going to go for the adrenaline rush in hunting, use this and pack in your features of smaller game hunting with your short-range rifle or shotgun. There are many advantages if you choose this weapon for small game hunting and the first is its draw weight. 

• Draw Weight:

The draw weight of this is not as heavy as that on a long-range rifle so they are much easier to operate. Operating a longer-range rifle is cumbersome and tiring after some time of aiming at the target. Unlike conventional bows, it takes just as much effort to pull back on your weapon every time you fire an arrow.

• Perfect Aiming:

Secondly, when using a shotgun or a rifle, you will experience recoil, but with this weapon, you won't get that kickback after firing an arrow which would just add difficulty in aiming should you be tired from the previous shots fired.

Better than Conventional Bows

You can use crossbows in almost all terrains. Its lightweight frame makes moving around with it easy so you don't have to carry the additional weight of a heavy rifle or shotgun. Also, unlike conventional bows, you don't have to bend down every time you fire an arrow, which can be tiresome. 

You get the best range with this weapon as compared to other types of long-range weapons (rifle and shotgun). Even if you are stuck in tall grass with your weapon, it won't hit your legs while firing an arrow at your intended target.
